This system bridges the communication gap between corona patients and doctor/nurse while maintaining social distancing and thus enables self-protection for doctors and nurses
The Covid-19 pandemic has taken the whole world by storm with more than 13 million confirmed cases and nearly 600,000 deaths so far. In Asia, India is fast approaching one million cases having recorded between 25-30,000 new infections every day for the past week.
The pandemic is straining healthcare workers worldwide. In such a scenario, communication plays an important part. There are way too many patients and way too much information to be handled.
A Chennai-based company, RajMall Inventives Pvt. Ltd., has taken a step in this direction to provide a potential communications solution for the healthcare industry.
The organisation has developed a device to bridge the gap between Covid-19 patients and the healthcare staff. Company’s Founder & CEO Vigneshwar KG came up with the idea of the Etiicos COVID-19 Patient Care System, as the modern-day solution to patient care related difficulties. The advanced digital technology that holds the latest cutting-edge wireless design, leads to an increase in co-ordination & facilitates the needs of patients.
In a chat with Vigneshwar KG, we explore a bit more about the new system and its advantages for the healthcare workers and the industry.
What was the idea behind launching such a communication device?
Corona cases and their death ratio are increasing all over the world. Death of frontline workers like doctors and nurses are also increasing drastically due to lack of a proper system to maintain social distancing between the doctors/nurses and corona patients inside the hospital.
To take care of social distancing and ensure smooth conversation, we invented a smart system called the Etiicos Covid-19 patient care system. This system bridges the communication gap between corona patients and doctor/nurse while maintaining social distancing and thus enables self-protection for doctors and nurses.
During distress, corona patients can call the nurse by simply pressing the button in the coin size device, which can also be configured as double & triple clicks for other patient needs such as food, medicine or any other emergencies. Once the button is pressed, the patient’s location and their details will be displayed on the nurse station monitor. Thereby, nurses can attend the patients only when they call, lowering their frequent visits to quarantined wards to less than 4 times a day.
Recently, few patients lost their lives due to lack of assistance during their distress inside the restrooms. Even these problems can be overcome by Etiicos, which works in a wireless manner covering more than 1 km radius distance and monitoring up to 100 beds. Also, we have additional features such as calling patients’ attendees and raising emergency alerts called Code Blue alerts during emergencies.
What kind of testing did you do to confirm the usability?
We have already deployed this system in ICH, Egmore, where we have received positive feedbacks from the mothers in labour wards. Most women experience some degree of pain or discomfort after childbirth, and they may not be surrounded by nurses all the time. Using our system, they felt it easier to call nurses for all kinds of assistance required.
We have also applied for the European CE Certification that includes all medical devices testing procedures and is nearing completion.
What if the system malfunctions or does not work & the patient is unable to communicate with the healthcare worker?
If the signal from the patient device doesn’t reach the nurse device, patient will get to know that he needs to redo the calling from the device.
What kind of technology is behind this device?
This device works on the latest long-range RF Technology.
How are you planning to work on increasing the range perimeter?
As mentioned, the system currently covers up to 1 km radius. We also have range extending devices along with this system that can go beyond the said distance.
Is the system patented?
Etiicos Covid-19 patient care system has been patented and we own the copyrights for product development and manufacturing.
